Stone and wood

All

I have been asked about the sculptures and carvings used to illustrate my second novel The Afanc. When travelling in Spain in the early 1980s we visited the Anfiteatro Romano de Mérida, a Roman site in Badajoz on the Portuguese border. I was struck by how many of the statues had missing parts: heads, arms, hands etc., and decided that a good theme for sculpting would be to make versions of these, as if they were found in fields apart from their main bodies. I also really like early medieval stonework, and have added some crosses and other items over the years.
